Accordance says the app will be release 'this fall' - I take that to be spring down under? { quickie posted at 5:22 pm on August 9}

coffee adventure roundup

A variety of circumstances brought opportunities for coffee in the past few weeks – especially at cafes that we’ve never visited before.

(Disclaimer for those who really do know their coffee: drinking ‘outside’ coffee is like our fun things to do away from our good ol’ Maccona, so please don’t take these thoughts too seriously)

Here’s a run down of our adventures into new brews :

  • We pass Cafe Giulia – rated ‘Simply the Best’ on the SMH breakfast review – every Sunday on the way to church, but never dared to stop because we usually time it so that Micaiah would get a nap on the car. Last Sunday Micaiah was sick at home, so I stopped by =D For $3 you get what is usually a medium sized cup of fresh steaming coffee. But this coffee is not for the faint hearted – literally! It is intense in taste and potency – I had a discernable elevated heart rate and a slight headache halfway through.
  • Cafe Ism is another one of those places that we see regularly – when we drive to college everyday – but never bothered checking out. I am glad I did! Right opposite the very well manicured Hollis Park on Wilson St, its cappuccino is the smoothest coffee in memory. I love the look and feel of their dimple cups, and the cool name of their beans Jack and the Bean also add to the chic. Only gripes that I have are their slightly-cooler brew and somewhat clumpy chocolate powder. Other than that, it was enjoyable cuppa ($3 for a small).
  • ABCafe is a new trendy cafe that opened on Anzac Pde a few weeks ago. We had high hopes for this place because Kingsford lacks somewhere to get decent coffee in the late afternoons. ABCafe opens till 10pm most days I think. But their Piazza D’Oro brew has a sour aftertaste – very disappointing! However, their decaf latte doesn’t have that sour note, so its quite pleasant to drink – and no extra cost for decaf ($2.90 for a small)!

    I found ABCafe’s coffee was very watery before, so quite a disappointing experience – but willing to give it a second chance.

    I know I might be condemned by suggesting this but Kingsford McCafe makes quite good coffee – that’s where I’d go for good coffee in Kingsford.

  • Hahaha, not a heresy here mate! We have McCafe coffee knowing that its pretty consistent quality everywhere – so its more like a staple rather than a fun outing =)

  • Totally unrelated, but just heard a Missy Higgins song on NCIS!
